FOCUS ON KYIV

Best of Kyiv

Vitaliy Klitschko says Kyiv has something for everyone

“Kyiv is a city with a rich history and lots of great architecture. It is at once an ancient and modern European capital and it has its own special atmosphere. The people here are very hospitable and open and have a great sense of humour. I’m sure visitors to Kyiv will enjoy getting to know our city, learning about our traditions and sampling Ukrainian cuisine, which is a must. Our borscht [beetroot soup], dumplings, potato pancakes and Chicken Kyiv are second to none. You won’t find such a variety of these dishes anywhere else!

I’d recommend visiting Volodymyrska Hill and Poshtova Square and taking a stroll along Andriivskyi Descent to get a feel for the spirit and atmosphere of our city. Another place worth visiting is St Sophia Square and St Sophia Cathedral, and then nearby there’s St Michael’s Cathedral with its golden domes. I love olodymyrska Hill. And ever since I was a boy I’ve enjoyed spending time at the Kyevo-Pecherska Lavra monastery, which has a magical atmosphere, and also Yaroslaviv Val Street and the Golden Gate. The NSC Olimpiyskiy is a modern and comfortable venue. I think the fans and players will like it. The stadium actually has a museum devoted to the Klitschko brothers! That’s definitely worth a visit!”
